Northern Art Prize nominees video playlist

The Turner Prize for the North returns in 2013 with an exciting list of nominees. This week at we’ve made a playlist of five of the artists who are nominated for the upcoming Northern Art Prize 2013. Our playlist explores Northern video artists to performance artists captured on film.

Founded in 2007, the Leeds-based Northern Art Prize recognises outstanding contemporary visual artists living and working in the North of England. As you may already know, the longlist for NAP 2013 has recently been announced, celebrating the practice of over twenty artists working in various mediums from Yorkshire, the North East and the North West. An exhibition of the short-listed artists (yet to be announced) will be on display next spring at Leeds Art Gallery from 28 March to 16 June 2013. The NAP 2013 winner will be revealed mid-way through the exhibition on 23 May 2013.

Not bound by medium or age, NAP recognises artists at any stage of their career provided that they are based in the North. NAP’s Director Pippa Hale explained: ‘Once again there’s a real diversity of media, career trajectories and of course ages – it’s great to see a wide range of artists from those in their 20s to 70s working with sound, paint, sculpture and digital technology. It clearly demonstrates one of the unique things about the Northern Art Prize in that it isn’t restricted by media or age.’
